Core Functions
DELTS is perhaps best known as a distance education provider. But we're so much more. We service all on-campus technical support, media production and course delivery, and offer faculty and graduate student training opportunities and course support.
We provide a range of services not only to the Memorial community (students, both distance and on-campus, faculty, staff), but also to external clients such as the provincial Department of Education's Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (K-12 based) and community partners like the Town of Cupids and the Miawpukek First Nations people of Conne River, Newfoundland and Labrador.
On the distance front, DELTS maintains Memorial's connection to the people of the province through the provision of education opportunities to the home or wherever the student resides. We advocate for equitable technology access in all areas of the province (particularly rural) on behalf of our learners. We also aim to enhance relationships with the academic units to permit service to the community, and maintain currency in technology, push the boundaries of its use and develop with faculty the highest quality, media rich and engaging courses available anywhere by distance.
On campus, we work with the academic units to develop and implement a technology enabled learning strategy for courses offered by Memorial University. It's our job to ensure that faculty and students are aware of the full suite of services we offer, and develop training and support in all areas of teaching and learning. We also support faculty members and students by ensuring that the teaching and learning support services at Memorial are the best available, providing relevant instructional development to faculty and graduate students.
We also strive to enhance our already-established relationships with the external community and educational system for wider university and student benefit, ensuring that staff are supported in their work by providing a working environment that cultivates creativity.
