President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Graduate Supervision

About the Awards

The President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Graduate Supervision honour those individuals who, through their creative approaches and sustained commitment to students, have generated intellectual excitement, have fostered the development of students' skills and interest in their disciplines, and have contributed to a positive teaching and learning environment at Memorial University. 

Call for Nominations

Students, faculty, and staff can now nominate candidates for the 2014 President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Graduate Supervision. Awards are presented in four categories:

  1. President's Award for Distinguished Teaching
  2. President's Award for Outstanding Teaching (Faculty)
  3. President's Award for Outstanding Teaching (Lecturers and Instructional Staff)
  4. President's Award for Outstanding Graduate and Postgraduate Supervision

Please note: Self-nominations will not be considered. 

Support for Nominators

If you would like to nominate someone for one of the awards, support and guidance are available. Throughout all steps of the nomination process, individuals are available to answer questions, review documentation, and help navigate the requirements of the award submission.

Award Categories 

1. President's Award for Distinguished Teaching

Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 21, 2014

Awarded in recognition of a faculty member's continued record of excellence in teaching at Memorial University for a minimum of ten years based on outstanding achievement in teaching effectiveness and engagement in educational leadership and educational scholarship. 

2. President's Award for Outstanding Teaching (Faculty)

Nomination Deadline: Thursday, March 20, 2014

Open to faculty members who hold a full-time faculty appointment at any campus of Memorial University for a minimum of five continuous years and have not nore than 10 years overall teaching experience. 

3. President's Award for Outstanding Teaching (Lecturers and Instructional Staff)

Nomination Deadline: Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Open to lecturers and instructional staff members with a minimum of five courses taught. 

4. President's Award for Outstanding Graduate and Postgraduate Supervision

Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 21, 2014

Awarded to a graduate or postgraduate supervisor who demonstrates exemplary supervisory behaviours and serves as an outstanding role model for other supervisors to emulate. Nominations for this award can be made by graduate and postgraduate students.
