Tuesday is Touque Day
Courtenay Alcock
Tuesday, Oct. 25, is Touque Day.

Despite our unexpected summer in October it won’t be long before those northerly winds come whipping, and Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support (DELTS) wants to get the Memorial community ready.

As part of I ♥ MUNdays, which runs from Oct. 20-25, DELTS is hosting Touque Day for the third year running, collecting donations of gently-used winter accessories to donate to a local community centre. The event aims to stir up a spirit of kindness and promote giving back to the community, bringing warmth and fuzziness in more ways than one.

As a token of appreciation, the team at DELTS will exchange donations with a brand new Memorial@Home touque.

This event, along with the full I ♥ MUNdays initiative, aims to embrace the diversity, ingenuity, excellence, kindness and community service that make Memorial University stand out. Students, staff, faculty and alumni are invited to get out, get involved and celebrate all things MUN.

The centre receiving the donations has a clothing store in which community members can purchase an entire bag of clothing for $1. The centre was thrilled with the donations from DELTS in the past and indicated that this event is a huge help in replenishing their stock.

Each year, almost 200 Memorial@Home touques are distributed to the university community for their participation in the event.

To participate in Tuesday’s Touque Day, drop off your scarves, hats and mittens to the Education (G.H. Hickman) building, room 1033 or room 2000 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25. DELTS will donate your items to the Froude Avenue Community Centre, and send you off in style with a Memorial@Home touque.
