Going the Distance

For four decades, Memorial University has increasingly provided access to its health and education resources to those outside the province's capital city. This is a story of Memorial's legacy and leadership in delivering these resources at a distance.

• Discover DELT More than just the online education provider for both distance and on-campus courses at Memorial University, DELT is also home to a stellar video production facility. The only fully HD-studio in Newfoundland and Labrador has produced an array of informational and educational videos – whether they were filmed in Malawi or in the basement of Memorial's G.A. Hickman (Education/Folklore/DELT) building.
• Student Focus Our distance education students are a very unique demographic. In ways, they are more dedicated than anyone. They are willing to study through full time jobs and full time families, whether they're tapping on a laptop with one hand and guarding the cupcake plate with the other while sitting at the kitchen table, smooshed into the centre seat on an airplane, whether they live in St. John's or St. Barb. • Teaching and Technology Creating virtual shipyards using Second Life immersive technology, developing an online entrance exam for prospective students, and traveling back in time to experience the culture and traditions of the Miawpukek First Nations people of Conne River are just a few projects DELT has produced, in collaboration with various internal and external community and culturally-based partners.
